If we don't get adequate sleep we wake up tired, unrefreshed and feel sleepy all day, not only this it may even increase the risk for various health problems like high blood pressure, diabetes, heart attack, stroke etc.
Now the question is how much sleep is sufficient for us?
On an average adults require 7-8 hours of sleep each night, however the need for sleep varies according to age.
Newborns require almost 16-18 hours, the requirement decreases as they grow older. Teenagers require 9 hours & elderly require 6-7 hours of night sleep.
Unfortunately 93% of Indians are sleep deprived as revealed by Philips and Nielsen survey in 2009.
Due to changing lifestyles, hectic schedules, increasing work demands, decreased physical activity, overuse of gadgets etc. We are giving less priority to sleep.
In order to be the best version of ourselves, we should follow a consistent pattern of sleeping habits. We should make sure we sleep in a cool, dark and quiet room on a comfortable mattress and supportive sleeping surface.
